Music and the effect

I re found blip.fm the other night and have started blipping songs again. It is alot of fun and allows me the opportunity to express my mood based on the type of songs I find to play and what I want to listen to. Basically, it allows you to become the DJ and others can listen to what you are playing or you can just search around until you find something you like that is playing and follow the music down the rabbit hole to see where it leads you. If you want, you can check out my station here:

Snow Sledding

Today my son and I went sledding on a hill near our house. We had a great time and it is about the only thing I like about the snow. Everything else is a pain in the ass.

About Me

Blogs always want you to list stuff about yourself like anyone really cares. Tonight though, I am feeling froggy so here is a list of my favorite movies with a couple of TV shows for good measure.

In no particular order:
Apocalypse Now Redux
Ghostbusters
Raiders of the Lost Ark
The Farscape series and the final movie
Spy Game
The Jackal
Charlie Brown in Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas
The Grinch Who Stole Christmas
Transylvania 6-5000
Transylvania Twist
Mr and Mrs Smith
The Bourne Series
The Lord of the Rings series
48 Hours
Trading Places
Underworld
The Chronicles of Riddick
Season One of 24
Minority Report
Band of Brothers
True Lies

So there you go. Now my favorites can be analyzed to determine my personality flaws along with the rest of society.

Coffee Lover

I must admit i do look forward to that first cup of coffee when I wake up in the morning. Over time I am becoming a coffee snob and really want good coffee when I can get it and I don’t mean the fancy frilly fru fru coffee served in starbucks although it does have its place, to replace ice cream or some other sweet tooth item. I am talking about fresh full bodied coffee and I like it strong.

This brings to mind THE coffee of the south Community Coffee. This is the best I have ever tasted and what I was lucky enough to grow up with. I miss home.

I was moving around with the Army as my travel guide in 1994 and was walking down the hall in the barracks when I smelled community coffee coming from one of the rooms. I walked up opened the door and there were six people standing around in this guys room drinking coffee. Yes, it is that good! If you are ever in Baton Rouge pick up a case you won’t regret it.

The Best Dark Roast Coffee!

Oh the Mess!

Ok, we all know the fabulous feast put on every Thanksgiving around the U.S. and the millions of people passed out afterwards from the over consumption of our fine feathered friend the turkey. The mess this creates in the kitchen and the effort to clean it up always astounds me. I am still catching up from it.

On another front, the weather here in eastern Kansas has been most agreeable the last two days and I took the terrier for a 3 mile walk today which he loves.

I am rather disappointed that I do not have any pictures to post especially since I have a camera but I cannot seem to convince my daughter to return it.

They (my daughter and wife?) are chasing barrels this weekend so I can’t get my camera even if I wanted it.

I have a new kayak and have been out in it twice so far. It is the most relaxing thing I have found to do and I have snuck up on wildlife I would not have been able to see otherwise. I had massive buck swim by me in a lake. I previously thought deer would only swim if left no other opportunity but this guy appeared to do it just to get to the other side of the lake. He didn’t mind me a bit either.

Here is a picture although this is NOT me.

What I am Thankful for

I am thankful for many things but having known this guy is right at the top of the list. Brother tank commander and comrade in arms. I will meet you at Fiddlers Green some day.

Thanksgiving and all that Jazz

I spent the evening baking pumpkin pies and explaining to my 19 yo daughter how it reminded me of a chemistry set with results reasonably safe to eat.

Geico Cavemen

When these commercials first appeared on TV I thought it was a great ad but it jut didn’t inspire me to buy car insurance. You know?

The Sign

I saw this video back in 1994 and thought it was the coolest thing around and I still like it.

The Sign by Ace of Base

I hope you do too.

Old Birthdays

I found this and it is perfect and true for all your “old” friends!

Killing Time

I took off from work this week and I am not sure why. I thought it would be nice to use three days of vacation to get a full week off work. I am just sitting at home because I don’t have any money to go anywhere. I have cleaned my house and washed the clothes. I have had time to look at some new blogs though. Katie West always has something on her flickr page for me to check out. Not only does she have some remarkable photos of herself but the commentary is thought provoking. To me anyway.

Wine tasting tips from Groupon

This is some great wine tasting tips from www.groupon.com I saw these and thought this encompasses my idea of wine tasting.

How to Properly Taste Wine

For total wine enjoyment, the wine drinker must engage in a multi-step process designed to reveal the wine’s flavor, body, and unique characteristics with each sip:

  • Give the wine in your glass one of three names: “Gary,” “Darryl,” or “Garryl.”
  • Bring the wine glass to your right eye and stare deeply into it for at least 30 minutes until you can no longer tell where the wine ends and you begin.
  • Starting with your left pinky and moving right, fully submerge each of your fingers into the wine glass until all fingers are in the glass.
  • Take a sip and slosh it around. When someone gives you some surprising news, spit it out.
  • Put all of the wine from your glass into your mouth, but don’t swallow. When all the wine is in there, open your mouth and say, “Keys. Once angry keeping flagrant.” Enjoy the wine that is left in your mouth.

Stuff

A question:

If your spouse moves out but it is on mutual terms without all the gnashing of teeth and rending of clothes, is this a good thing?

I have so much to say now that I am alone most of the time. It is raining outside with the thunder and lightning. Mother natures very own light show. I was always afraid of this when I was growing up and now I find it very soothing. How strange is that? Isn’t it amazing how as we grow and are changed and influenced by the events around us through no fault or action of our own.

Why do men and women have to think on different planes of existence?

I am beginning to see now why people react the way they do when the children start to leave the house. The emptiness is a little unnerving at first even with the pets still running around.

The finances should be straight by the first of December so maybe then I can get out do some of the things I want to do. I just have to get through Thanksgiving without being able to throw the traditional feast this year.

How many of you believe you are traveling down a pre set course regardless of the choices you make?

Things for you to consider until next time …
